![]() ![]() I think I’m going to exploit this technique in future projects. I also did a test by drawing black lineart on top of the image to get more cartoony look. It’s a lowpoly model, but still kinda detailed (mostly just textures). And since the sprites are so small, there is no need to do very detailed modeling. And I really wanna make NPCs that have more unique animations, because… well, the game needs to feel alive. And I’m kinda happy with the result even though it’s missing animation :D Even though modeling, texturing and rigging the character takes way longer than simply drawing it, the fact that how easy it will be to make just one animation that can be used in all directions will be worth it. I just took an old character model of a young witch, made very quick render of it in 8 direction and made a sprite sheet that I used in rpgm. But that’s even more work.īut then I started thinking, why don’t I try making the characters in 3D? Of course RPG Maker and Game Maker can’t render real-time 3D, but maybe making character sprites from rendered 3D models could do the trick? So I made this little test with some unused map (Please excuse the lack of walking animation, the character doesn’t have a rig) This wouldn’t be a problem if I’d do the whole game in full 3D. What this means, is that there’s gonna be lots and lots of drawing characters in 8 directions and then doing all the animations again in all 8 directions. I’m kinda turning towards doing my next game in a isometric/dimetric perspective with 8-directional movement. I’ve thought a lot about future projects and especially how to execute the graphics in them. (This has nothing to do with with IF, it’s just some fun tests I made related to making games.) ![]()
